Tasting @Chawlas2

Chawlas2 is a Indian Punjabi cuisine restaurant in JLT, Dubai. It has a history of more than 56 years with much wider presence in India and other countries. The owner of Chawlas2 in JLT, Dubai is a banker by profession but for the love of food and to bring a slice of Punjab to the people in Dubai, started this venture of Chawlas2.

I began with a glass of Sweet Lassi – Lassi being my favorite drink in a Indian restaurant. I never miss a chance to order that drink, specially if am in a restaurant where they serve Punjabi food (Yummy :D). By now i and my husband were quite hungry, and we ordered for the starter platter.

The starter platter has both non vegetarian and vegetarian items from the menu:

Hariyali Paneer – soft, home made paneer cubes and mild spicy.

Fish Tikka – Tikka is something which i always look up to when i order for starters, Type of Fish- King Fish, mild spicy and very tasty. My top 3 from the platter were:

Tangdi Kabab – Tangdi in Hindi means Drumsticks, its a delicious in mouth melt appetizer prepared by soft moist chicken cooked in traditional indian spices  and had fillings of cashew and other ingredients. It was not very spicy and very juicy chicken. Must try in Chawlas2. The second favorite:

Peshawari Tikka – Yummy, spicy and tender piece of chicken (which i loved the most in my first visit to Chawlas2). Third favorite is the stuffed

Tandoor Aloo – as the name says it stuffed with paneer, cheese, cashews and other ingredients. Must try for all  you veggies out there! There’s so much more in Chawlas2 keep exploring! They have one of the best starters, quality and quantity speaks for itself.

From the main course, we went on to try their famous Creme Chicken with Roomali Roti combination. Creme Chicken is a famous, secret recipe from the Chawlas is their Signature dish for decades. White sauce and chunks of chicken with flavorful indian spices, is smooth and chicken pieces are so soft that it just melts in your mouth, as you chew. Chicken is boiled in milk inorder to attain the perfect tenderness. It is rich and filling, definitely worth a try. Am sure you will love it.

Paneer Tikka Masala – We all love Paneer tikka masala, soft home made paneer cubes cooked in rich, spicy gravy which was delicious in every bite. It was perfect with my Tandoori roti 🙂

Dal makhani – Dal Makhani as we all know is originated in the Punjab region, cooked with whole black lentils butter and creme. Taste was similar to home made Dal Makhani, goes well with rice or butter roti / parathas.

Tomato Fish Curry – Tangy Tomato curry prepared with King fish as its main ingredient. This one is a different from the regular fish curry i have tried earlier. But didn’t tingle my taste buds much. So, i’ll leave it to you guys to review and tell me.

Moong Dal Halwa – I love to eat Gajar ka Halwa, but this time i wanted to try something different. Moong dal halwa is lentils cooked in milk, ghee and sugar. It had the right amount of sweetness and quantity is good enough.

Chawlas2 is highly recommended whenever you crave for some authentic Punjabi food. Am impressed with their quality, as they donot use any artificial food color on any of their food item.

Ambiance is good, it has a outdoor  and indoor seating area. The restaurant has simple furniture and decor has a touch of Punjab. Service is good, so dont worry and let the staff take you through culinary treasures of Punjab and Chawlas2.
